Howdy y'all ! I hope everything is goin' well for y'all. :)
I'm into Texas music, due to I'm a fan of ZZ Top. I really love Texas country and its music!
In the past, when I researched on the internet about ZZ Top, I realized that ZZ Top had psychedelic roots. For example; "Legendary" Roky Erickson was one of Billy Gibbons' best friends, Billy had a psychedelic blues rock band named The Moving Sidewalks, Hill Brothers (Dusty Hill & Rocky Hill) had founded "The American Blues" (Frank Beard had joined them), and so on. The Moving Sidewalks and The American Blues were the good musical groups of Texas Psychedelic music scene.
Most people think that "Legendary" Roky was the most important person in Texas psychedelic music. For sure "Legendary" Roky was prophet of Texas psychedelia but in Texas there were many cool bands, back in the day. I think it's important in that the existence of these bands shows us range of Texas music. Also thanks to ZZ Top, I'm so happy that I discovered this music treasure. In fact, I believe and feel that TEXAS is one of the music capitals of the world.…

As early as i can remember the sound of the guitar seemed to call to me. Songs on the radio jazz, blues, rock,or country it did not matter. But the sound of the guitar was what i focused on.I visioned my self playing all those wonder full melodies notes but yet no guitar.i was watching the OZZIE AND HARRIET SHOW,then i knew what it was.I saw RICKY NELSON and JAMES BURTON playing .Iwas blown away by JAMES BURTONS playing and skill. I asked what he was playing, he replied thats a electric guitar. Now I inform my dad i can play one. He asked if i ever played one my answer is no,but i can. We,ll see he says. Now i wonder what that means.A week later he tells me to help him unload the car. So theres a long tweed case a MEL BRAY CHORD BOOK, And a tweed box that says champ,an in the back is a chord.I open the case to find a FENDER MUSICMASTER GUITAR. Dad says he believes i can play cause i didnt hesitate when i answered. I went to the room opened the book and began to work on learning all of it.It was school homework and guitar,I learned it in two days, then i discover how to use the amp.Man im in hog heaven.i progressed rapidly, soon had a TELECASTER, A JORDAN AMP,AND A FENDER TWIN. All because my father believed and never once frowned when i played, this means more to me than all the money and so called fame ever will.Im 58 years old now ,i practice for hours everday. This is who i thought had the magic growing up JAMESBURTON FREDDIE KING ALVIN LEE ZEPHER JEFF BECK JIMMY PAGE AND ALL THE SOUTHERN ROCK GREATS. AND locally in amarillo texas KIM GARRISON JERRY THOMPSON STANLEY CLARK ROBERT TOMBERLIN VINCE HOPKINS ERIC DENTON REX GIRRARD ERIC E STEVE HATHAWAY AND MYSELF. I may have missed some cause AMARILLO is full of hot guitarist.Well this is how love faith and determination, oh ya i knew i could.....fred arthur jella.....daboogieman

Hi folks,
I hope y'all are doing well.
I love Texas style blues and I believe there is something from my soul in Texas Blues Music!
In my opinion, Texas Blues & British Blues are most impressive blues genres. As y'all know, Texas has a deep Blues history. I know some new artists for Texas Blues and I wanted to share those (if you want to add I would appreciate it)

Recently I have posted a couple of interviews by our new Blues friend in Athens, Greece, Michael Limnios. He has been kind enough to ask me a few questions and conduct this online interview with me, which I find amusing, and very sweet. Without further ado, and as it thunders outside, I give you this [LONG story of me and the Blues], for your rainy day reading pleasure. ~ ASO

The Blues community lost two of the greats this week. Big Walter 'The Thunderbird' Price and Bugs Henderson have passed away. Price was 97 years young and a Houston icon known as the last of the 'Peacock Records' crew from one of Houston's most famous blues labels. Read More here. [Houston Chronicle Story by Andrew Dansby]
Bugs Henderson made it long enough to see a huge benefit thrown in his honor and attended by many of Texas' great Blues artists before he succumbed to cancer at 68 yrs old. You can read an excellent article here by [Mario Terradell writing for The Dallas Observer.blogs]

Here's another [GREAT ARTICLE], an interview with Texas bluesman (UK transplant) Leo Aston of Houston's 'The Leo Trio' from our friend Michael Limnios is Athens, Greece. "My music comes from every part of me, and then some." ~ Leo Aston.
Anyone who has ever seen Leo perform knows this to be true. My God...the sweat! Have you never seen the SWEAT?!?!? Leo absolutely gives it his all, everytime he is on stage, cancer or no cancer he delivers the highest energy face-melting blues and blues/rock music that cannot help but inspire folks to get up and dance and feel the joy he feels when he's got his guitar and his band-mates and he's in the groove.
Leo talks about many things including what inspired him to play the blues, his band-mates and ultimately how he plans to kick this pancreatic cancer in the a** so he can get back to business playing his guitar and hopefully inspiring many more blues artist along the way.
Author Michael Limnios is one busy guy, let me tell you! He even has plans to interview MOI! That'll be a nice change. The interviewer as the interviewee...I LIKE it! Check out Michael's page over there too...many, MANY great photos of him with so many Blues artists. Howdy from Texas, Michael, and welcome to the front page of the Texas Blues Roadhouse!

I want to share [this great article] coming from across the globe of one of my favorite bluesmen, and even better a close, personal friend of mine, Richard Cagle. He shared it on his Facebook page for his friends to read, and I've cross-posted it here for the Roadhouse regulars such as you and I. Enjoy the ride. ~ASO

Last year, just getting to perform at the legendary Memphis TN 'Orpheus Theater' was a dream come true for Orq, and now he's in Memphis again competing in the Internation Blues Challenge for the second year in a row, representing Houston TX!
Abby Owen of 'The Texas Blues Roadhouse' interviewed 'The Mighty Orq' late 2010 as he was getting prepared to go represent the Houston Regional delegation in the Solo/Duo category in 2011. He was officially one of the last eight finalist who competed last year, Feb 5th 2011 in Memphis. This is out of hundreds of contestants, so just getting that far was a major win for Orq, and his devoted Texas fans. See the interview, find out who wins, and stay in the loop at American Blues News!
Watch him weave his magick in this video from a couple years ago,

Okay, I know I've been slacking, but it IS my middle name after all...he he. I was poking around on American Blues News, another online news source I write for occasionally, and thought Clapton fans might enjoy reading about Eric's year in shrink-wrap. So, without further ado, I share with you: Eric Clapton 2011: A Year In Review by J Blake. Enjoy! <-----Click Here!

The Jam starts a little earlier than before. We will kick things off at 8:00 and go till around 12.The…Continue

I came across this board while trying to find out what ever happened to the Texas Blues Cafe podcast. The last one was late November last year, then no more! Anyone know?

Yeah, this is an obvious question. But I thought I would try to seed the discussions in the forum with a hot topic. As a musician, the word "favorite" is really subjective. There's no doubt that SRV was my entry point to the blues. I had heard a lot of blues before him, but nothing grabbed me the way his version of Mary Had A Little Lamb grabbed me. I hadn't been exposed to enough blues at the time to know that there was music out there that would make your whole body want to move. This was the…Continue

Roadhouse members, It would help me a great deal if you could suggest the songs that you consider to be the standards of the Texas Blues sub-genre of blues. Obviously there will be a lot of opinion on this subject. So please be respectful. We'll listen to everyone's suggestions and then try to boil the list down to a reasonable number. I'd like this list to contain both new and old standards. So obviously Stevie Ray Vaughan is fair game. Likewise, so are all the old legends of Texas Blues.…Continue
