I was thinking this morning that it might be a fun project to try and create a Real Book for blues tunes. If you aren't familiar with the Jazz Real Book, it is basically a collection of standard songs that the jazz guys felt everyone should know (plus a few odd choices that seem to be personal preferences of the author.) These books were photocopied and traded in back alleys before the music was copyrighted. We could do the same thing with blues tunes and use the books at the jams to encourage players to learn more standards and step out of the box a little.

Well this being my first post I thought I should bring it with a few songs, Boom Boom, Red house, One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer, Dirty Pool, , Cross Roads, Hide Away, Stormy Monday, Things That I use to Do, Rollin and tumblin, The Sky is Crying,Walkin blues, Big Boss Man and Nobody Knows you when you down and out.
Also there is kinda already a book like this out there. It is called the Blues Guitar Tab White Pages.
Permalink Reply by Michael Schaefer on December 16, 2010 at 12:07pm That looks like a good book. The idea behind the Texas Blues compilation was this. I was trying to find ways to provide content that folks around here would want enough to take the time to come to the site and fight through the page design flaws. It's one thing to have a list of blues standards. And it's another to have a custom list of Texas Blues standards, as identified by your peers. That's where I was going with it. I don't see any Zuzu Bollin on this list. :)
