I was thinking this morning that it might be a fun project to try and create a Real Book for blues tunes. If you aren't familiar with the Jazz Real Book, it is basically a collection of standard songs that the jazz guys felt everyone should know (plus a few odd choices that seem to be personal preferences of the author.) These books were photocopied and traded in back alleys before the music was copyrighted. We could do the same thing with blues tunes and use the books at the jams to encourage players to learn more standards and step out of the box a little.

If anyone would like to help me with this, please let me know. If you can transcribe music, that would be a help. And if you have suggestions on which standards to include, I'd definitely like to hear those suggestions as well.

I can't guarantee that I'll be able to pull this off. But it might be worth a try.

Michael

Good list. Wish I saw this earlier. Did you see all the videos I uploaded? I uploaded like a bunch. Here are the ones that I submitted as possible standards:

That looks like a good book. The idea behind the Texas Blues compilation was this. I was trying to find ways to provide content that folks around here would want enough to take the time to come to the site and fight through the page design flaws. It's one thing to have a list of blues standards. And it's another to have a custom list of Texas Blues standards, as identified by your peers. That's where I was going with it. I don't see any Zuzu Bollin on this list.   :)

The first post said you were working on a normal blues book there was another thread for a Texas Blues book. That is why i posted the list here.

Have y'all seen the Just Real Blues Book from Warner Bros? A decent collection with over 330 songs.

Haven't seen it Stack- Then and again, I don't read tat much music-Where did you get your copy??

I think I got my copy at Amazon. Though I can read music, I mainly got it for the lyrics.
Found a link to it here. Looks like a good one:
