Texas Blues Standards

Roadhouse members,

It would help me a great deal if you could suggest the songs that you consider to be the standards of the Texas Blues sub-genre of blues. Obviously there will be a lot of opinion on this subject. So please be respectful. We'll listen to everyone's suggestions and then try to boil the list down to a reasonable number.

I'd like this list to contain both new and old standards. So obviously Stevie Ray Vaughan is fair game. Likewise, so are all the old legends of Texas Blues.

Also, if you can find a video of a classic performance of that song, that would help as well so that we can add those to our video library for future reference.

You only want tunes by TX artists or tunes we hear played on a regular basis in TX?

Well, initially, that was open for debate. I didn't want to be the only one defining what the parameters were. So it's really up for discussion.

But here are my two cents. If we include songs that we hear played on a regular basis ... then I would hope that would include a lot of different songs by a lot of different blues artists. Then, that list because a list of "blues standards" and not just "texas blues standards". Plus, that list would depend a lot upon who you asked, and where they lived in Texas. For example, I'd bet the Austin artists play a way different selection of blues standards. Now, I agree that this still has value. But would it, say, have as much value as a list of truly Texas tunes that **should** be standards? I don't know. I'm open to suggestions on that.

For the record, I'm thinking again of shutting this site down. We're just not getting any traffic out here and all of my attempts to try and do something interesting have failed. It's certainly not worth the $25/month I pay to host it. And I feel guilty asking for donations for such a poorly utilized site. I'm open to suggestions on what to do about that as well.

In my opinion; beginning from 60s these five famous musicians designated Texas Blues standards
