Bob Margolin was born and raised in Brookline. He started playing guitar in 1964, and his first appearance on record was with Boston psychedelic band Freeborne, and their 1967 album Peak Impressions.

Margolin was a backing musician for Muddy Waters from 1973 to 1980, performing with Waters and The Band in The Last Waltz. As a solo recording artist, he has recorded albums for Alligator Records, Blind Pig, Telarc and his own Steady Rollin' record label.

In 1979 he made a guest appearance, along with Pinetop Perkins, on The Nighthawks album, Jacks & Kings.[3]

In 1994, he appeared with Jerry Portnoy as guest musicians on the album, Ice Cream Man by John Brim.[4] It received a W. C. Handy Award nomination as the best 'Traditional Blues Album of the Year'.[5]

Margolin is a columnist for the Blues Revue magazine.

Derek “Big House” O’Brien is a Texas-style blues guitarist, sometime bassist and record producer based in Austin, TX.

A stalwart of the house band at the famous Austin blues club Antone’s Nightclub, O’Brien is most often found backing up other Austin frontmen, including Delbert McClinton, Lou Ann Barton, The Texas Tornados and almost anyone recording on the Antone’s Records label.

O’Brien has also backed up major blues names such as Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters. Ted Drozdowski, writing on Gibson Guitars’ website, says, “O’Brien has a terse, arrow-sharp and spare style comparable to Jimmie Vaughan’s – light on flash, but soooo right. Check it out.”

I know that it is going to be a great show Bill-  Thanks for keeping us updated on The Austin Blues scene. rrt

Thanks Bill! I cross-posted this on Facebook too.

It was a truley great show...Bob was in fine form, his singing was very strong and guitar playing was inspiring.

He said he hadn't played in awhile....you sure couldn't tell!

Bob had Sarah Brown-bass, Deke O'Brien-guitar, Kaz Kazenhoff -sax& harp, Corey Keller-drums.

All top blues ringers, the songs were spot on and Antone's needs more blues acts...IMO.

Super band, tunes were classic blues...many Europeans in the audience with LPs they wanted signed.

Of course the best part was when Bob called Kathy and I on stage to play Kathy's "Bird in the Hand" and "What I'd Say" with them....what an honor!!

Jeff Hayes' Twilight Trio open the show with some really cool obscure blues.

Awesome that you got to make an appearance on the show with a talent like Bob- Wish I could have been there to caxtch that act- Was doing a little gig in Marshall, Texas and had a blast- Thanks for keeping us updated on Austin my friend- rrt
