Does anyone ever go jamming while on the road?

I've hit a couple in the Houston are while bringing my son to and from school.

**My FAV so far down there is the "Big Ass Blues Jam" hosted by Rick Lee and the Night Owls. 9pm, Tues nights @ The Hideaway on Dunvale, 3122 Dunvale, Houston TX. Hosted by Rick Lee and the Nite Owls. www.hideawayondunvale.com....

Rick Lee is good people and has won Houston's IBC challenge - its a good opening set. There is a nice size non-musician audience who actually appreciate what is going on there - Tues is also steak special night. Ive been about four times over the past two years and they haven't remembered me yet, but I'll take hospitality over a good memory any day. And it always ends the same, a smile, a handshake, and Rick says "Tell Leo De La Vega I said hi!"

I haven't done much of this myself, mostly because I never know where to go in other cities. How did you find out about the BABJ?

I googled "blues jam houston" and http://www.houstonbluessociety.org popped up. I picked one from their list.

Yeah. HBS does try to keep a current list. I've even helped to let them know about jams starting up or closing down. In fact, it is their list that I copy & pasted on to this site...(I'm the secretary of the HBS now)

I was working down in Corpus Christi a few years ago.  I happen to have a Music News newspaper with me, and was looking through it one night.  I noticed a band had their schedule on an add and Dr. Rockit's Blues Bar was on the list.  I only got to go 3 times.  That was a really cool place, and a really good host that didn't play favorites.  You get up there and play 3 or 4 songs, then get off the stage.  If all jammers got finished early, they would have a group jam with everybody that could fit on stage.  Lots of fun.  Check it out
