Thanks for the update Gordon. Sounds like a great event. Keep us updated on future events over there at CCCC. And if any of the other jazzers out there want to share stuff they know about, please don't hesitate. I know Brookhaven has some great stuff going on, Eastfield, Richland and of course, UNT.

And the highlight of my time at the festival was having Tom "Bones" Malone sit in with us in the Latin Jazz group for a couple of tunes. Good stuff! I spent about an hour just hanging out with him, really nice guy!

The festival went well! There were 16 schools that participated. I MC'd one of the two performance halls. Heard some really good jazz big bands. I was really impressed with the Fowler school bands, both middle school and one of the bands had several 6th graders. They were as good as many of the high school bands! It's pretty cool that kids can get a really good music education in the DFW area.

The annual Collin Jazz Festival starts this Friday night (3/26) and runs through Saturday evening (3/27).

The Jazz Festival gives local middle school and high school jazz big bands an opportunity to play in public and receive critique on their playing from some of the areas top jazz professionals.

You can hear performances on Friday and Saturday at these times:

Friday 8pm - The TI Jazz Band is the opening act. The Collin Jazz Faculty Combo will perform with special guest artist Tom "Bones" Malone. Tickets are available at the door - $5.

Saturday 9am to 4pm - local schools big bands perform. Free admission. Some of these schools have really good bands. Come out and support them!

Saturday 8pm - Collin Latin Jazz group with Tom "Bones" Malone is the opening act. I'm playing bass in this group! There will be an awards presentation for the local schools after the Latin group. The Collin Jazz Lab Band will perform after the awards presentations. Tickets are available at the door but may be sold out - $5
