I've talked to Chuck and Gordon about this in the past. I'm curious if anyone would be interested in learning to read jazz charts and play jazz. If interested, please chime in.

Thanks,

Michael

Just a quick update on this. It's looking very probable that we will kick off the Frisco Jazz Combo Society here in the next week or so. I have approval from the Frisco Association for the Arts to use the facility. We are just ironing out a few logistical details.

In the meantime, here is the basic charter I've drawn up:

Group:

The Frisco Jazz Combo Society

Description:

The Frisco Jazz Combo Society is a community organization under the umbrella of the Frisco Community Band focusing on jazz in a combo setting.

Purpose:

The purpose of the FJCS is to foster an environment where musicians from within the community can:

* share an appreciation for jazz.
* study jazz theory
* apply jazz theory on their instrument of choice
* practice performing with other musicians in an ensemble
* gain public performance opportunities within the City of Frisco

Costs / Expenses:

At this point, the group would only need a place to rehearse and gather for weekly meetings. All other needs can be met individually by the members. In the future, there would be expenses for sheet music. But we are looking at ways to raise that money through public performances.

Note that this would be open to anyone. It's not limited to Frisco residents, although we would have to schedule a certain number of performances in Frisco to remain under the Arts Association.

Stay tuned for more.
We now have a website!!!

The Frisco Jazz Combo Society

All are welcome.

Michael
