On top of the column is the chord type. Below is the various arps varying in position. The "R" is the root of the chord. Finger position is VERY important. Bad technique will halt a player's growth.

For you bass players out there, the same concept applies. I've worked with a few younger (and some older) players who have difficulty playing some lines because they haven't been shown the basics like hand and finger positions.
