Wow, what a cool gig. I'll have to admit to being very pleasantly surprised at Buzz Andrews' performance. I'd seen Buzz around here and there for a couple years and even made a quick visit to Cadillac for the Thursday night jam a couple months ago, but I'd never actually seen Buzz in his element.
And man, was he in his element. The place was just packed at the 8PM downbeat and the very first tune (at least I think it was the first tune) was, get this - a singalong, with half the crowd shouting "Before you accuse me," and the other half answering, "Take a look at yourself!" for several choruses before Buzz ever sang a note.
Damndest thing I ever saw.
Buzz has a very natural, fun, easygoing stage persona that the crowd responded very well to, and throughout the night, just played hellacious-cool leads on his electric/acoustic.
And if that wasn't enough to guarantee me a good time, Joey Love was playing lead guitar, always-solid Drew Alain was on bass, and my old bud Bill Lynch (from the Voodoo Blue chapter before mine) was playing drums. It's always so nice working with pros where everyone just intuitively knows what everyone else is going to do... I don't think anyone missed a lick the whole evening.
Anyway, very cool evening - hope to do it again soon!
