Chris Watson continues to book the band at some of the best gigs. We played a major off-strip Las Vegas casino last week, Boulder Station Casino (my first time to play Vegas), were very well-received and we had a great time. It was cool having festival-class lighting and sound reinforcement in a nightclub; pretty much on-par with the House of Blues Music Hall gig (except we didn't have an onstage monitor tech at HoB).
Thursday, June 3, found us on the Denton County Courthouse lawn for Denton's summer "Twilight Tunes" concert series with a great turnout (est. 700) for a 90-degree June evening. I continue to be pleasantly surprised at how well this band plays across nearly all age ranges. Most of the crowd seemed to be middle-aged and I was initially a bit concerned about blasting those folks with Chris' high-intensity material, but we went over very well and were even called back for an encore. How cool is that?
Next week, the band starts an every-other-Thursday gig at Razoo's in Lewisville, and my intention is to use those gigs for continuing to work in my Yamaha 88 in an effort to add a more lush, musically layered sound to some of our material, and to continue tightening up the rhythm section.
And speaking of rhythm sections, when did that term come to mean "the drummer and bassist?" Back in the day, a rhythm section (i.e. The Atlanta Rhythm Section), pretty much consisted of everything that wasn't a vocalist, horn section or string section, usually the 4-piece core of the band, drums, keys, bass & guitar.
